Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on GLSP’s website (“Site”), express an interest in obtaining information about us or our services, when you participate in activities on the website, or when you otherwise contact us.

Personally identifiable information we collect may include your name, email address, and county of residence.

If you begin or submit a request for assistance or determination of eligibility, you may be asked to enter:

  • Information about the specific legal problem you have
  • Your name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your mailing address
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your preferred language
  • Your gender
  • Your race
  • Your marital status
  • Whether you are living with a disability
  • Your citizenship status
  • Information about those persons living in your household with you
  • The types and amount of income you and those persons living in your household receive
  • The types and amount of assets you and those persons living in your household own

 

We also collect non-personally identifiable information about users of the Site, including: browser used to access the site, date and time, browser window size, the URL of the page being loaded, users who have visited a particular website(s), any previously assigned cookie identification (a unique identifier assigned to a user to identify repeat visitors), the geographic location of the user, device and operating system used to access the Site. 

 

How We Use Your Information

We use personal information collected via our website for a variety of business purposes described below. We process your personal information for these purposes in reliance on our legitimate business interests, in order to enter into or fulfill an agreement with you, with your consent, and/or for compliance with our legal obligations.

  • When you request to be signed up for an email list
  • Process a donation or other transaction you initiate
  • Create or request an appointment or meeting
  • Create an online request for assistance or eligibility pre-screen on your behalf
  • Communicate with you regarding services for which you have given us permission to contact you

 

Information is used to enhance the user experience while visiting our Site and to improve the performance of our Site by, among other things, allowing us to monitor Site performance, making the Site easier to use, measuring the effectiveness of our outreach, and tailoring the Site to better match a user’s interests and preferences.

 

Sharing Your Information

We only share information with your consent, to comply with laws or court orders, to provide you with services, to provide a more customized experience as you interact with our organization and services, to protect your rights, or to fulfill business obligations.

GLSP works with third party vendors to provide a more customized experience for you and to communicate with you about our services. To do so, we may disclose personally identifiable information about you (specifically, your name and email address) to those vendors, though we do not allow them to re-sell or use that information for their own purposes.

If you provide us with a phone number and consent to our use of that number to communicate with you via SMS (also commonly known as texting or “short message service”), we will not share that phone number.

Information collected as part of an online application for assistance or determination of eligibility is never shared with an outside party except to the extent required to process your application or when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law or a court order.

 

Security of Your Information

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information.

Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and known vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our Site as safe as possible.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information.

All credit card transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.

While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.

 

Cookies and Web Beacons

To help enhance the performance and functionality of the Site, we use session, persistent and third-party “cookies” that store a small piece of data on a users’ computers and collect certain information about the users’ visit to our Site. We also use cookies to understand users’ browsing and online activities so that we can measure the success of online outreach campaigns we run on the Site. Our Site also uses web beacons (either directly or from our partners), along with cookies, to determine if a user has visited a particular website. These beacons aid in providing more relevant outreach to the user, as well measuring the success of an outreach campaign, but provide no personally identifiable information.

A session cookie is a cookie that stores information as a user is using the Site but is deleted once the browser session is finished. Third-party cookies and/or web beacons are cookies or web beacons provided by our technology and/or outreach partners. Any third-party cookie or web beacon that we authorize for use on the Site only collects that information described below for the same stated purposes as if we were directly collecting the information. For a third-party cookie or web beacon, the third-party will have access to the collected information to provide us with information or services to enhance the performance and functionality of the Site.
