Antes de su estad\u00eda en el hospital, Don no ten\u00eda d\u00f3nde vivirni ten\u00eda ning\u00fan carnet de identificaci\u00f3n con foto. La trabajadora social trat\u00f3 de conseguirle un carnet de identificaci\u00f3n del Estado, pero se le neg\u00f3 la petici\u00f3n porque el nombre que figura en la partida de nacimiento de Don no coincid\u00eda con sus otros documentos oficiales, como su tarjeta del seguro social, su acta de matrimonio, su documentaci\u00f3n escolar y su sentencia de divorcio. Por consiguiente, se le neg\u00f3 la vivienda subsidiada.\n

\nLos abogados de las oficinas de GLSP en Augusta presentaron una petici\u00f3n para cambiar el nombre oficial de Don para que coincidiera con el nombre que \u00e9l llevaba usando toda la vida y que figuraba en varios de sus documentos. Cuando concedi\u00f3 el Juez el cambio de nombre, pudo la trabajadora social conseguir un carnet de identificaci\u00f3n con foto para Don, y con ese carnet se le concedi\u00f3 una vivienda subsidiada cerca de su familia.
